Method and apparatus for transmitting/receiving channel quality information in a communication system using an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing scheme

A method and Mobile Subscriber Station (MSS) are provided for transmitting Channel Quality Information (CQI) in a wireless communication system using an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) scheme. A Carrier to Interference and Noise Ratio (CINR) of at least two bands are measured; each of the at least two bands including a plurality of adjacent subcarriers for a band Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) operation. A Report Response (REP-RSP) message including first information related to the measured CINR is sent. Second information related to a differential CINR of the at least two bands is sent via a Channel Quality Information Channel (CQICH).

A method for transmitting channel quality information (CQI) from a receiver station to a transmitter station in a wireless communication system which includes diversity mode consisted of spaced apart subcarriers and band AMC mode consisted of a number of bands comprised of a predetermined number of adjacent subcarriers. The method comprises the steps of transmitting an average CINR(Carrier to Interference and Noise Ratio) value for a full frequency band if the receiver station operates in the diversity mode; transmitting a differential CINR of a predetermined number of bins if the receiver station operates in the band AMC mode.

In the channel estimation apparatus, an FFT processor converts a received time-domain signal into a frequency-domain signal by FFT-processing the received time-domain signal. A channel acquirer estimates a first channel information for an SDMA user using a preamble signal allocated to the SDMA user in the frequency-domain signal. A channel tracker estimates a second channel information for the SDMA user using pilots in a data area allocated to the SDMA user in the frequency-domain signal. A channel estimator estimates a final channel information by weighting the first channel information and the second channel information according to a channel change rate.

Apparatus and method for channel estimation in an SDMA-OFDM system

In transmitting channel quality information (CQI) by a mobile station (MS) in a communication system, the mobile station receives from a base station (BS) information of an allocation of a CQI channel and information as to a modulation to be performed on the CQI. CQI channel signal is generated based on the CQI and the modulation information, where the CQI corresponds to a measured channel state.
