A method of treating and protecting plants from fungal infections by topical and systemic application with hypophosphites is described. The hypophosphites are selected from the group consisting of hypophosphorous acid (H.sub.3 PO.sub.2) and its salts with monovalent, and multivalent inorganic ions.

Fungicidal treatment and composition

Fungicidal compositions for controlling fungus diseases in plants are disclosed. These compositions contain as their active materials compounds and polymers thereof corresponding to the formula: ##STR1## in which Y', Y', Z' and Z' represent a hydrogen atom or an optionally halogenated alkyl radical containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms. Included within these active materials are the hydrolysates, salts and quaternary salts of these phospholanes.
