A method for depositing one or more polycrystalline silicon layers () on a substrate () by a chemical vapor deposition in a reactor, includes adjusting a deposition temperature between 605&#xb0; C.-800&#xb0; C. in a process chamber of the reactor, and depositing the one or more polycrystalline silicon layers on the substrate by using a silicon source gas including SiH4 or SiH2Cl2, and a dopant gas including BCl3.

A system and method for locating a preferable playback start location after a winding or rewinding action in an audio playing device. In response to an adjustment of the playing location for audio content to a desired playing position, the system determines whether at least one non-speech or silent period of at least a predetermined duration exists within the vicinity of the desired playing position. If at least one such non-speech or silent period exists within the vicinity of the desired playing position, the system adjusts the playing position to fall within one of the at least one non-speech period or silent period.

Embodiments of the invention provide a method and encoder for encoding a frame in of a communication system. The method includes calculating a first set of parameters associated with the frame, wherein said first set of parameters comprises filter bank parameters. The method further includes selecting, in a first stage, one of a plurality of encoding methods based on the first set of parameters one of modes for encoding, calculating a second set of parameters associated with the frame, selecting, in a second stage, one of the plurality of encoding methods based on the result of the first stage selection and the second set of parameters one of modes for encoding, and encoding the frame using the selected encoding excitation method from the second stage.

Signal encoding a frame in a communication system

A method and apparatus include a voice activity detection module configured to detect silent frames, and a codec mode selection module configured to determine a codec mode. The voice activity detection module includes a receiver configured to receive a frame, a first determiner configured to determine a first set of parameters from the frame, and a providing unit configured to provide the first set of parameters to the codec mode selection module. The codec mode selection module includes a second determiner configured to determine a second set of parameters in dependence on the first set of parameters, and a selector configured to select a codec mode in dependence on the second set of parameters.

Speech codecs

A method of encoding a frame in a communication network using multiple codec modes, wherein the frame encoded by each codec mode is represented by multiple parameters. The method includes at least one stage, wherein the stage includes the steps of selecting one group from multiple groups of codec modes, wherein each group includes at least one codec mode and is arranged to have a common parameter characteristic. The method further includes encoding the frame with one of the codec modes from the selected group in dependence on the common parameter characteristic.

A method of encoding speech in a communications system includes the steps of receiving a speech signal including voice signals and background signals, and detecting voice activity and providing an indicator when no voice activity is detected. The speech signal is encoded to generate a plurality of parameters representing the signal. When the indicator is not present, a first parametric representation of the speech signal is output, including the plurality of parameters. When the indicator is present, at least one of the plurality of parameters is modified and a second parametric representation of the speech signal, including the modified parameter is output.

Method and apparatus for encoding speech

A method of determining a codec mode for encoding a frame in a communications system, the method comprising the steps of: receiving a sequence of signal samples arranged in frames; analysing a current frame to select a codec mode appropriate for the current frame; predicting the characteristics of a subsequent frame using lookahead samples from the subsequent frame; and determining a codec mode for the current frame and the subsequent frame which suits the current frame and also suits a subsequent frame based on the predicted characteristics.
