A display device includes a display panel and an input sensing layer. The display panel includes a base layer including a first island part, a second island part, and a connection part. Sensing patterns of the input sensing layer include a first sensing line pattern disposed on both the first island part and the second island part, and a second sensing line pattern disposed on the connection part. The connection part is an area to which stress is applied as the display device is modified in shape. The second sensing line pattern is disposed on an area of the connection part to which relatively less stress is applied.

A backlight unit includes a light source for generating light and a light guide plate for guiding the light in an upward direction, a top surface of the light guide plate includes a plurality of first and second lens patterns which extend in a first direction, the first lens pattern and the second lens pattern are alternately arranged in a second direction crossing the first direction, and a width the first lens pattern in the second direction increases gradually from a first width to a second width greater than the first width and then decreases gradually from the second width to the first width repeatedly along the first direction.

A controlling method of a display apparatus, which includes pixels each including red, green, blue, and white sub-pixels, includes receiving image data in a unit of frame, analyzing the image data to extract pixel data with respect to a first pixel among the pixels and block data with respect to a first block of a backlight unit, which corresponds to the first pixel, normalizing the pixel data and the block data, comparing the normalized pixel data and the normalized block data, and generating white compensation data corresponding to the white sub-pixel on the basis of the compared result.

Display apparatus and method of controlling the same

A display device including a display panel, a timing controller, a backlight unit, and a backlight controller. The display panel includes a plurality of display blocks, and receives an image signal and display an image. The backlight unit includes a-numbered red light sources, b-numbered green light sources (a and b are natural numbers, b&#x3c;a), and a-numbered blue light sources, and provides light to the display panel. The backlight controller calculates a red luminance average, a green luminance average, and a blue luminance average of the block image signals, respectively, controls a duty ratio of the red light sources based on the red and green luminance averages, controls a duty ratio of the green light sources based on the green luminance average, and controls a duty ratio of the blue light sources based on the blue and green luminance averages.

Display device capable of reducing power consumption

A display device includes: a light guide member under the display panel and including a light incident surface; a heat discharge member including a heat discharge surface which extends in a first direction opposite to the light incident surface of the light guide member, and a first flat surface which extends in a second direction from the heat discharge surface; and a light source on the heat discharge member, which provides light to the light incident surface and includes a light emitting device on the heat discharge surface and including a light emitting surface opposite to the light incident surface, a circuit board on the first flat surface of the heat discharge member and electrically connected to the light emitting device, and a heat discharge portion on the heat discharge member and which couples the light emitting device to the heat discharge surface of the heat discharge member and discharges a heat generated from the light emitting device.
