An internal combustion engine diagnostic device and an internal combustion engine diagnostic method identify an abnormal cylinder having an abnormal air-fuel ratio among a plurality of cylinders during the operation of an internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine diagnostic device comprises: an air-fuel ratio control unit for changing the air-fuel ratio in a stepwise manner by controlling a fuel injection amount adjusting means that adjusts the fuel injection amount of each of the plurality of cylinders; and an abnormal cylinder identification unit for identifying an abnormal cylinder on the basis of the relationship between each air-fuel ratio changed in a stepwise manner and the number of misfires occurring in the plurality of cylinders, the number being counted by a misfire counter for each air-fuel ratio changed in a stepwise manner.

Internal combustion engine diagnostic device and internal combustion engine diagnostic method

The disclosure relates to a vehicle body structure safeguarding a fuel tank from damage resulting from collisions without greatly increasing the weight of the vehicle. The vehicle body structure includes a front floor under which a fuel cell stack case accommodating a fuel cell stack is disposed, and side sills and floor frames which extend along the sides of the vehicle, and on which a sub-frame for housing a fuel tank is installed. The front face of the sub-frame and the rear face of the fuel cell stack case are flat and oppose each other.

Vehicle body structure

A vehicle rear body structure is disclosed having a flat portion formed on a rear floor panel, a bottom portion of a spare tire resting concave portion lower in height than the flat portion, and a front wall connecting the flat portion and the bottom portion to one another and sloped downwardly rearwardly. A front wall reinforcing member for reinforcing the front wall is mounted along an inclined surface of the front wall. The front wall reinforcing member limits deformation of the front wall by guiding the spare tire along the inclined surface when the spare tire is moved forward. As a result, a distance between the front wall and a fuel tank disposed below the front wall and the flat portion is reduced for thereby enabling the fuel tank to have an increased volume.

Vehicle rear body structure

An air-fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine controls the air-fuel ratio of a mixture supplied to the engine in response to an output from a first air-fuel ratio sensor arranged in an exhaust passage at a location upstream of a catalyst for purifying exhaust gases emitted from the engine. A control parameter for use in controlling an operation of the engine is changed when deterioration of the catalyst caused by sulfur poisoning is detected to desulfurize the catalyst.

Air-fuel ratio control system for internal combustion engines

An air-fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine having a catalyst arranged in the exhaust system, for purifying exhaust gases emitted from the engine. Upstream and downstream air-fuel ratio sensors arranged in the exhaust system at respective locations upstream and downstream of the catalyst detect the concentration of a specific component present in the exhaust gases. An ECU controls the air-fuel ratio of an air-fuel mixture supplied to the engine, in response to the outputs from the upstream and downstream air-fuel ratio sensors. The ECU detects deterioration of the catalyst caused by sulfur poisoning, based on at least the output from the downstream air-fuel ratio sensor.

A misfire-detecting system for an internal combustion engine has an ECU which detects a value of a parameter representative of a misfiring state of the engine, and also detects the deterioration degree of a catalytic converter arranged in the engine exhaust system. The ECU sets a misfire-determining reference value, based on the detected deterioration degree of the catalytic converter, compares between the detected value of the above parameter and the misfire-determining reference value, and determines whether the engine is in a misfiring state, based on the result of the comparison.

Misfire-detecting system for internal combustion engines

An air-fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine having a catalytic converter arranged in the exhaust system, and an air-fuel ratio sensor arranged upstream of the catalytic converter calculates an air-fuel ratio correction amount by means of proportional control and integral control based on an output from the air-fuel ratio sensor, and controls an air-fuel ratio of a mixture supplied to the engine, based on the air-fuel ratio correction amount. A control frequency at which the air-fuel ratio control is carried out is increased when deterioration of the catalytic converter is detected.

An air-fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine having a catalytic converter arranged in the exhaust system, a first air-fuel ratio sensor arranged upstream of the catalytic converter, and a second air-fuel ratio sensor arranged downstream of the catalytic converter, calculates an air-fuel ratio control variable, based on an output from the second air-fuel ratio sensor. An air-fuel ratio correction amount is calculated based on an output from the first air-fuel ratio sensor and the air-fuel ratio control variable. The air-fuel ratio of a mixture supplied to the engine is controlled based on the air-fuel ratio correction amount. The air-fuel ratio control variable is corrected in the rich direction such that the air-fuel ratio of the mixture supplied to the engine becomes richer, when deterioration of the catalytic converter is detected.

An abnormality-detecting device is provided for an internal combustion engine having first and second oxygen sensors arranged in the exhaust system at locations upstream and downstream of a catalytic converter. An ECU detects the degree of deterioration of the catalytic converter, based on an output from the second oxygen sensor, and sets a reference value for determining an abnormality in the engine, based on the detected degree of deterioration of the catalytic converter. The ECU compares between the set reference value and a value based on an output from the first oxygen sensor, and determines the abnormality in the engine, based on the result of the comparison. Upon detection of the abnormality, an LED is actuated to issue an alarm.

Abnormality-detecting device for internal combustion engines

The air-furl ratio of an air-fuel mixture supplied to an internal combustion engine is controlled in response to an output from at least one oxygen sensor arranged in an exhaust passage for detecting concentration of oxygen present in exhaust gases. The deterioration of the at least one oxygen sensor is detected based on the output therefrom. When the engine is detected to be in a predetermined abnormal operating state, it is not permitted to monitor the output from the oxygen sensor for detecting deterioration thereof.

An air-fuel ratio control method for an internal combustion engine. The air-fuel ratio of an air-fuel mixture supplied to the engine is feedback-controlled to a predetermined value in response to an output from the exhaust gas ingredient concentration sensor. The temperature of at least one component part of the engine, which should be controlled, is estimated based on the detected temperature of exhaust gases, engine rotational speed, and engine load. The air-fuel ratio of the air-fuel mixture is inhibited from being feedback-controlled but enriched, when the estimated temperature of any one of the at least one component part of the engine is higher than a corresponding predetermined value.

Air-fuel ratio control method for internal combustion engines

A cast-in member and a heating member are set in a mold with the cast-in member being in the vicinity of the heating member. Molten metal is poured through an ignition runner into contact with the heating member to ignite the latter and produce heat. The cast-in member is heated with the heat from the heating member. A sealing device for a ship's propeller shaft installed around the propeller shaft in which longitudinally spaced annular iron pole blocks, and circularly spaced permanent magnets fixed between the blocks are mounted in a cylindrical housing surrounding the propeller shaft, and a magnetic fluid fills gaps between the magnets and the annular iron pole blocks and either a liner mounted about the shaft or the shaft itself. The magnetic fluid serves as a sealant and completes a magnetic circuit which maintains a well defined thickness of magnetic fluid sealant and a high pressure seal even under great mechanical stress, thereby minimizing frictional power loss and wear to the propeller shaft or sleeves which are conventionally shrink-fitted thereto.

Proposed in this specification is a method for fixing a multitude of blades or vanes onto inner concaved surface of an outer shell of a turbine wheel for a fluid or hydrodynamic coupling made by sheet metal stamping, in which a plurality of slots, each having a size sufficient to receive in it a projected part of each blade, are formed by means of an array of punches held on a die in the inner concaved surface of the outer shell of the turbine wheel at an equal space interval provided between adjacent slots, and in an arrangement of a plurality of concentric rings, then the projections provided on each blade are fitted into the slots in a manner to cause the blade to extend in the radial direction from the center of the concentric rings of the arrays of the slots, and finally one of the edge portion of each slot is staked or caulked by means of the array of punches which have been shifted for a thickness of the blade so as to cause one of the side surfaces of each of the projections on each blade to be urged to the inner surface of the slot opposite to the staked inner surface thereof. Also proposed is an apparatus for fixing such blades which is constructed with a die to hold the outer shell of the turbine wheel with its inner peripheral surface being faced upward, and at least a single ring shaped punch array consisting of a plurality of punches, which are provided on the die in a vertically movable manner.
