Piston-operated internal-combustion engine having wet cylinder liners

A lubricating system is disclosed which includes a splash cooling of the pistons of an internal-combustion engine by spraying nozzles, the cooling jets of which are aimed at the interior surfaces of the pistons. In order to achieve, after the start of an internal-combustion engine, a rapid buildup of the lubricant pressure, the lubricant supply to the spraying nozzles is interrupted in this initial operating phase. Since, in the starting phase, the lubricating oil supply to the camshafts can be reduced considerably or can even be switched off completely without damaging the bearings, the spraying nozzles and the camshafts receive a common lubricating oil supply which can be controlled centrally by means of control valves. It is advantageous that already existing lubricant ducts may be used, and the spraying nozzles can be constructed in a simple manner without any integrated control valves. It is also advantageous that the spraying nozzles must no longer be arranged at the central main duct above the crankshaft, which is disadvantageous with respect to accessibility and space conditions, but in the area of the camshafts which, in the case of a V-Engine, may be arranged in an advantageous lateral crankcase area.

Arrangement for the mounting of exhaust gas lines

A control for the engagement and disengagement of an exhaust gas turbocharger in which the charging air pressure of the internal combustion engine is used as control magnitude for the engagement and disengagement. Unfortunately, this charging air pressure exhibits oscillations with large amplitudes after each engagement and disengagement which could trigger faulty shifting operations in the control. To alleviate this problem, the control line (44) between the charging-air line and the control slide valve members (40, 41) is always closed off when these oscillations occur and their negative effects on the control are thereby prevented.

Control system for the engagement and disengagement of an exhaust gas

An air flow in the combustion space which swirls or rotates about the cylinder longitudinal axis is produced for the fine distribution of the fuel by a correspondingly constructed inlet channel controlled by two inlet valves in a supercharged four-cycle internal combustion engine with direct fuel injection. With a low air mass flow, the rotary movement of the air in the combustion space is only weak and therefore prone to disturbance. An improvement is achieved by a change of the air flow in the inlet channel system. The valve actuation contains, for that purpose, an adjusting mechanism consisting of a piston-cylinder-unit fed with pressure oil, which effects in one operating function an automatic valve clearance compensation and which enables in a second operating function together with a controllable closure device in the pressure oil feed line a stoppage of one of the two inlet valves actuated in unison by the valve actuation. The reduction of the inlet cross section produces in the second operating function an increased inflow velocity of the air into the combustion space whereby at the same time the valve disk of the stopped inlet valve no longer projects interferingly into the circulating air stream.

Valve control of a supercharged four-cycle internal combustion engine

A diesel internal combustion engine in which during the starting and partial load operation, a number of the cylinders are operated as compressor cylinders and a number as engine cylinders. The supplied charging air of one compressor cylinder (26) is used as actuating medium for the valves (35 to 42) which are to be controlled corresponding to the operating condition of the internal combustion engine, in the connecting lines (27 to 34) between the compressor cylinders (19 to 26) and the engine cylinders (11 to 18) in the absence of a compressed air network. As a result thereof, auxiliary energy of the internal combustion engine (10) is needed only for the initiating control and a rapid shifting of the operating conditions is attained with minimum expenditures.

Diesel internal combustion engine

In a turbocharged diesel internal combustion engine (10) with low compression ratio, at least one cylinder (11) operating as an engine cylinder is charged during starting and at partial load operation by several cylinders (18, 21, 28) operating as compressors. The pistons of the compressor cylinders (18, 21, 28) lead the piston of the engine cylinder (11). As a result thereof, the engine cylinder can be charged during its compression stroke. The compressor cylinder (28) which by reason of its large angular ignition spacing to the engine cylinder cannot feed directly into the engine cylinder, delivers its supplied air at first to another compressor cylinder (18) which is located more favorably. Only thereafter, the air of the two compressor cylinders (18 and 28) is fed in common and in parallel with a further, possibly also favorably located compressor cylinder (21), to the engine cylinder (11).

In a diesel internal combustion engine (10) having a low compression ratio, at least one cylinder (11) operating as engine cylinder is supercharged during starting and in the partial load operation by several cylinders (12, 13) operating as compressor. The piston of the first compressor (12) which is used for the direct charging of the engine cylinder (11), leads the piston of the engine cylinder (11) exactly so far that the air compressed by the same is fed directly into the engine cylinder (11) during the beginning of the compression stroke. At least one further compressor cylinder (13) supplies its air to an air storage device (22) which is connected with the engine cylinder (11) by way of a line (24) adapted to be closed off by a valve (23). The valve is controlled in the opening direction by the compressed air of the first compressor cylinder (12) so that the air of the storage device (22) together with the air of the first compressor cylinder (12) reaches the engine cylinder (11) at the correct instant and is further compressed thereat by the piston of the engine cylinder (11) up to the fuel injection.
