Catalysts, catalyst systems, and methods for removing ammonia and/or carbon monoxide in flue gases are provided where ammonia is used with a selective catalytic reduction catalyst for reducing oxides of nitrogen. An oxidation catalyst is utilized, which comprises particulate platinum or platinum/palladium dispersed on zirconia particles, the particulate platinum or platinum/palladium having an average particle size less than about 10 nm. The catalyst is effective to convert less than 20% of NO to NOpassing through the oxidation catalyst.

The invention pertains to a layered ammonia oxidation catalyst. The layered catalyst causes ammonia to be selectively oxidized in the presence of an oxidant such as air, while minimizing the formation of nitrogen oxides (NO). The layered catalyst comprises a refractory oxide support such as gamma alumina upon which a platinum component is deposited and a vanadia component is deposited on the platinum. The catalyst is preferably disposed on a substrate such as a metal foil whose surface contains a 'herringbone' pattern.

Layered ammonia oxidation catalyst

A process is described that removes by oxidation the excess ammonia (NH) gas from flue gases that have been subjected to selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of oxides of nitrogen (NO) by ammonia injection. The inventive process incorporates a secondary catalyst of precious metal and vanadia on a metal oxide such as titania to catalyze the oxidation of both ammonia and carbon monoxide (CO) while maintaining sulfur dioxide (SO) levels.

Ammonia oxidation catalyst for the coal fired utilities

A catalyst for the oxidation of volatile organic compounds and carbon monoxide comprising manganese and alumina, such catalyst having been impregnated with a phosphorus compound. The presence of the phosphorus compound results in a significant oxidative conversion of both the volatile organic compounds and the carbon monoxide. The catalyst is especially useful for treating gaseous streams that emanate from industrial sources, such as wood pulp manufacturing plants. The manganese portion of the catalyst is preferably comprised of manganese compounds comprising a defect non-stoichiometric manganese oxide of the type &#x3b2;-MnO, wherein x has the value of 0.1&#x2266;x&#x2266;0.25 in respect to about 80 to about 95% of all manganese atoms, and manganese aluminate in respect to the balance of the manganese atoms. The alumina portion of the catalyst is preferably comprised of high temperature forms of alumina of the type comprising &#x3b1;-AlOand (&#x3b1;+&#x3b4;+&#x3b8;)-AlO.

Manganese-based oxidation catalyst

A stabilized metal promoted aluminosilicate zeolite, useful in the selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides with ammonia, having a silica to alumina mole ratio of at least 8 and less than 30 and an FT-IR absorption peak at 3781 plus or minus 2 cmwhich stabilizes the zeolite against further dealumination such as under oxidizing and harsh hydrothermal conditions.

The present invention is directed to a metal-promoted zeolite beta catalyst useful in the selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides with ammonia in which the zeolite beta is pre-treated so as to provide the zeolite with improved hydrothermal stability. The stabilized beta zeolite is provided by incorporating into the zeolite structure non-framework aluminum oxide chains. The aluminum oxide chains can be incorporated into the zeolite structure by a unique steaming regimen or by treatment with rare earth metals, such as cerium. The treatment process is unlike well-known methods of dealuminizing zeolites for the purpose of increasing the silica to alumina ratio. In the present invention, the non-framework aluminum oxide is characterized by FT-IR by a peak at 3781&#xb1;2 cm, which when present, stabilizes the zeolite against further dealumination such as under oxidizing and harsh hydrothermal conditions.
