Method and system for the determination of scattering coefficients of a frequency-converting device under test

A measuring device provides a synthesizer device, at least two controlling devices and at least two controlled oscillators. The synthesizer device contains at least one direct digital synthesizer and generates at least two signals of known phase ratio. Signals generated by the synthesizer device form reference signals of at least one controlling device. Signals formed by the controlling devices control the controlled oscillators. The measuring device contains only frequency splitters, which divide by integer division factors.

The invention relates to a method for carrying out a frequency change whilst retaining the phase relationship between several devices, in particular, network analyzers. Each device has at least one signal generator for stimulating an object for measurement and at least one local oscillator, connected to at least one mixer, for receiving a measuring signal obtained from the object for measurement by the superposition principle. On changing frequency, in a first step, only the frequency of the local oscillators of all devices is changed and the frequency of the signal generators of all devices remains unchanged. In a second step, only the frequency of at least one signal generator is changed and the frequency of the local oscillators of all devices remains unchanged.

A method and a device for increasing the dynamic range and measuring accuracy of a measuring device for spectrum and/or network analysis images a high-frequency electronic signal within a frequency range into at least two spectra through a first frequency translation by means of a mixer of the measuring device. As a result of the first frequency translation, the spectrum of the high-frequency electronic signal is successively imaged within the resolution bandwidth (&#x394;F) of an intermediate frequency filter of the measuring device. At the same time, through a second frequency translation, every spectral line of interference signals generated in the measuring device comes to be disposed outside the resolution bandwidth (&#x394;F) of the intermediate frequency filter.

Method and device for increasing the dynamic range and measuring accuracy of a measuring device for spectrum and/or network analysis

A digital compensation filtering technique is provided that enables indirect phase locked loop modulation with a digital modulation data stream having a bandwidth that exceeds, perhaps by an order of magnitude, the bandwidth characteristic of the phase locked loop. A modulation data receiver is provided for receiving from a modulation source digital input modulation data having a bandwidth that exceeds the cutoff frequency characteristic of the phase locked loop frequency response. A digital processor is coupled to the modulation data receiver for digitally processing the input modulation data to amplify modulation data at frequencies higher than the phase locked loop cutoff frequency. This digital processor is connected to the phase locked loop frequency divider to modulate the divider based on the digitally-processed input modulation data, whereby a voltage controlled oscillator of the phase locked loop is controlled to produce a modulated output carrier signal having a modulation bandwidth that exceeds the phase locked loop cutoff frequency. The digital processing of the modulation data can be implemented by adapting a digital FIR Gaussian transmit filter such that its filter characteristic reflects the intended modulation data amplification as well as enables Gaussian Frequency Shift Keyed modulation. With this implementation, no additional componentry beyond the PLL system is needed to implement the digital modulation data processing provided by the invention.
