A negative-working, infrared radiation-sensitive lithographic printing plate precursor is exposed and processed on-press to provide a lithographic printing plate. This precursor has an infrared radiation-sensitive imageable layer comprises free radical imaging chemistry; an infrared radiation absorber; a particulate primary polymeric binder comprising polyalkylene oxide segments having an average particle size (D) of at least 50 nm and up to and including 1000 nm; and a particulate secondary resin having an average particle size (D) of at least 3 &#x3bc;m and up to and including 10 &#x3bc;m. The imageable layer has an average dry thickness (t) of at least 1 &#x3bc;m and up to and including 4 &#x3bc;m and satisfies Equation (1):/1.4&#x3e;&#x2003;&#x2003; (1)and the average dry thickness (t) is defined by Equation (2):&#x2003;&#x2003; (2)wherein w is the dry coverage of the imageable layer in g/mand r is 1 g/cm.

Negative-working lithographic printing plate precursor and use

A positive-working lithographic printing plate precursor exhibits satisfactory developability and has long print run length, satisfactory scratch resistance, and exhibits improved ink receptivity. This precursor has an image forming layer comprising a water-insoluble and alkali-soluble or alkali-dispersible resin. The image forming layer comprises at least a lower layer and an upper layer. A resin in at least one of the lower layer and the upper layer is a polyurethane including a recurring unit comprising a substituent having an acidic hydrogen atom and a recurring unit represented by the following formula: wherein Ris an alkyl or polyether group in which at least 50% of hydrogen atoms have been fluorinated, Ris a hydrogen atom, or a substituted or non-substituted alkyl group, m is 0 or 1 to 10, n is 1 to 30, and x is 1 to 4.

Lithographic printing plate precursors have been designed so that they can be stored, shipped, and used in stacks without interleaf paper between individual precursors. This is achieved by incorporating polymeric particles having an average diameter of from about 3 to about 20 &#x3bc;m into the outermost precursor layer such as an imagable layer or topcoat. The polymeric particles comprise a core of a crosslinked polymer and have grafted hydrophilic polymeric surface groups that are grafted onto the particle surfaces by polymerizing hydrophilic monomers in the presence of the crosslinked polymeric particles. The lithographic printing plates can be either negative- or positive-working elements.

Imageable elements that contain silicate-coated polymer particles in the imageable layer, stacks of these elements, and methods for forming images using these elements are disclosed. The elements do not stick to each other when stacked without interleaving paper, and only one imageable element is lifted at a time when the imageable elements are handled by automatic processing equipment. Blanket piling is not observed when silicate-coated particles are present in the imageable layer.

The present invention provides an imageable composition including an acid curable composition, an acid generator, an infrared absorber having a counter anion derived from a non-volatile acid, and a strong acid such as a sulfonic acid. The imageable composition may include components such as a crosslinkable binder or a colorant. The photosenstitive composition includes an aqueous resin composition including fine particles (a) of a resin having at least one neutralized anionic group and having a heat fusion property, and a water soluble resin (b) having at least one neutralized anionic group, wherein the water soluble resin (b) is included in a range of 1 to 30% by weight, relative to the total weight of the aqueous resin composition; and a substance (c) which absorbs light and generates heat.
