Performance based delivery of content to an audience member. A network of audience member information collection domains provide information about audience members. A profiled audience member may belong to a network segment. Delivery of an advertisement to the profiled audience member is accommodated based upon membership in the network segment and performance criteria. The performance criteria may be configured to benefit a publisher, such as by maximizing revenue. Allocating revenue based upon the collection of data used to target audience members is also provided.

Future media viewership is forecast based on time ordered analysis of historical viewership information from an individual or combination of a plurality of data sets. Forecast models having coefficients derived from comparisons of time series representations of data sets across a plurality of time periods and data sources join together disparate data sets. Individual data sets from disparate data sources may be compared to identify possible untrustworthy data or data that requires further investigation. Organizing viewership information in a time series allows for imputing missing data in a respective data set.

The segments are then calculated by collecting profile data for audience members and determining whether members have attributes that a defined by the audience segments. The hierarchical definition of segments allows audience segments to be logically combined and facilitates efficient recalculation of audience segments. Profile synchronization provides an authoritative identifier that is used to reconcile the potential issuance of multiple identifiers for a given audience member.

A system and method for determining client metadata using a dynamic rules engine is disclosed. The system may include a universal data agent, a site management tool, a targeting engine, an ad server, and a data warehouse. When a visitor visits a site on a content delivery system, the universal data agent and targeting engine may collect data about the visitor and site. The site management tool may configure the universal data agent and provided current rules for the dynamic rules engine. The collected data may be stored in the data warehouse and evaluated in the dynamic rules engine to produce a content category. The ad server may use the content category to serve targeted ads and/or other content to the visitor.
