A method and system for pipeline purging with reduced environmental impact. A vacuum and/or compressor system purges air or other gases from at least a section of the pipeline to create a vacuum in the pipeline. The vacuum can then be replaced with a fuel gas, avoiding a mixing of fuel and oxidant in the pipeline. The vacuum and/or compressor system can include a fuel gas monitoring leak-detection system to monitor for fuel presence in the purging air.

Method and apparatus to export fluid without discharge

Systems and methods for shutting off or stopping fluid flow through a pipe are provided. An inflatable bag stopper assembly is inserted through an opening into the pipe. The assembly includes one or more inflatable bags with each inflatable bag having a check valve positioned at an inlet. In inflatable bag stopper assemblies of two or more inflatable bags, the inflatable bags are connected in series. The inflatable bag stopper assembly is inflated such that the inflatable bag or bags act or serve to obstruct, block, close, or otherwise effectively foreclose passage of the fluid through the pipe.

Detachable system to shut off pressure flow in pipes

A breakaway coupling includes a body and a valve assembly inside the body. The body includes a fluid conduit and a shear groove between first and second portions. The shear groove is designed to crack, break, or separate under certain conditions. The valve assembly is designed to shut off fluid flow through the fluid conduit when the shear groove cracks, breaks, or separates. The valve assembly includes a valve seat, a sealing element, one or more pins, and a biasing member. The one or more pins hold the sealing element in an open position while the shear groove is in tack, and allow the sealing element to move to a closed position (with the help of the biasing member) in the event the shear groove cracks, breaks, or separates.

An in situ launch system for an underground gas main stop-off station includes: an outer launch tube having a distal lower end and a proximal upper end; a transition fitting having a proximal end fitted to the distal end of the outer launch tube with a gas tight seal, and a distal end; the distal end of the transition fitting having external threads having a first nominal dimension, and internal threads having a second nominal dimension; and a completion plug threaded into the internal threads of the transition fitting.

Launch system for underground gas main stop-off station

A device and method for inserting a tool into a pipeline transporting a fluid. The device includes a housing that is attachable to a vertical fitting applied on the pipeline, and a launch tube supported by the housing and including a tool passageway through which a tool is fed. The launch tube moves relative to the housing to raise and lower a shoe at an end of the launch tube into the pipeline. The shoe is and adapted to insert a tool into the pipeline at an angle to the launch tube.

Directional insertion tool

A process and apparatus for installing a valve in a pipeline while the pipeline is pressurized, and without leakage of pipeline media. A valve body is formed by attaching a sleeve with an annular space to a pipeline, filling the annular space with curable material, and then machining a cylindrical hole through the pipe, into which a valve is inserted.

A utility service tee scraping tool having three basic components&#x2014;a scraper or cutting element, a scraper holder, and an alignment body. The scraper includes a rigid, vertically oriented body to which one or more cutting blades are attached. The scraper holder includes a service pipe tee clamp having two gripping elements with surfaces adapted to fit snugly around the service pipe tee and maintain the tee scraping tool in a fixed position during operation. The tool may be manipulated from above ground. Although particularly suitable for use in keyhole excavations where remote operation of the tool is required, the tool may also be used in traditional excavations.

An apparatus for facilitating the use of tools on underground pipeline systems including a socket having a polygonal open end, a pliable socket insert having a polygonal outer circumference corresponding to the polygonal socket opening adapted to fit snugly into the polygonal opening and flush with the open end of the socket and a locking device by which the socket insert is maintained within the socket during use. The socket insert is provided with a plurality of pliant inwardly extending projections which deform to the size and geometry of the tool to be employed when the socket is pressed onto the tool.

Method and apparatus for beneficiating soils during vacuum excavation

A tracer wire connector () having two parts, a main body () and a cover (). The main body includes a base () and a raised portion () connected with the base, the raised portion forming a first groove () extending from one side of the base to an opposite side of the base, the raised portion forming an at least partially closed bore () having a closed off end () extending parallel to the first groove, and the raised portion forming a second groove () traversing the first groove and the bore. The cover forms a cavity () adapted to receive the main body and includes at least one cutting element () disposed within the cavity aligned to fit into the second groove upon insertion of the main body into the cover. Disposed within the cover is a displaceable insulating material which is displaced to fill empty space within the connector upon insertion of the main body into the cover.
