Microwaveable popcorn arrangements are provided, the arrangement being a bag having a popcorn charge of popcorn kernels and oil/fat component therein. The arrangements include folded bags having preferred, internal, seal and/or adhesive field configurations. The preferred configurations inhibit the undesired flow of oil/fat from the popcorn charge. Microwave popcorn products and methods of preparation and use, are provided.

A microwave popcorn package is provided. The package has an inner ply and an outer ply of flexible material, such as paper, with a microwave interactive construction therebetween. The plies are bonded together with a laminating adhesive that is applied in a regular pattern of polygonal adhesive areas. This pattern occupies at least 80 square inches (516 cm ) of the surface between the plies, and provides no more than 50% adhesive coverage of that area where the pattern is located. The adhesive polygons can be squares or diamonds. A second adhesive pattern can be present in a second portion of the ply surface.

In one form of the invention, a microwave popcorn package is provided. The package generally comprises a sheet construction of flexible paper folded in the form of an expandable bag. The sheet construction may include one or more plies of material. In preferred applications, the package includes an inner ply of paper to which has been applied an adhesive, to provide improvement in greaseproofness. In some preferred arrangements, the package includes inner and outer plies, and the outer ply also includes an adhesive applied to it, to provide grease-resistant character. A preferred method for preparing arrangements according to the present invention is provided.

Treatment for microwave package and products

A microwaveable bag having stand-up wide mouth features is provided. The microwaveable bag can be used in constructions including a microwave popcorn charge therein. The preferred construction is folded from a single sheet, preferably a multi-ply construction having a microwave interactive arrangement positioned between the two plies. After popping, the arrangement forms a self supporting bag with an open mouth for ease of access to popped popcorn.

The construction generally comprises a flexible single-ply bag having a microwave interactive construction secured thereto. A variety of embodiments are described. An arrangement including a charged popcorn therein is also provided. Further, methods of constructing such arrangements of methods of use are described.

A thermocompensating susceptor is described comprising a microwave transparent sheet, e.g. paper, paperboard or plastic, having a layer thereon of a dried dispersion comprising a film forming vehicle together with two kinds of dispersed particles including microwave interactive particles such as a metal, metal oxide, carbon or graphite that absorbs microwave energy to produce heat in a microwave oven and electrically nonconductive thermocompensating particles of a mineral hydrate containing bound water of crystallization and having a dissociation temperature between about 100.degree. F. and 500.degree. F., at which temperature the bound water is released therefrom to prevent overheating of the laminate.

The invention provides a package for popping popcorn in a microwave oven including an open-topped wide mouth container in the form of a tub or bowl formed from self-supporting, i.e. stiff, microwave transparent sheet material such as stiff paper or paperboard with a flexible and expandable cover. A layer of microwave interactive susceptor material is distributed across the bottom wall of the tub to assist in popping the popcorn. Unpopped popcorn within the tub is packaged in a sealed inner compartment or container within the tub. During cooking, the flexible cover expands upwardly as the kernels pop so as to accommodate their expansion.
