A volume is represented using high spatial resolution ultrasound data. By modulating B-mode data with Doppler or flow information, the spatial resolution or contrast of the B-mode data may be enhanced. The same set of ultrasound data is used for identifying a boundary, for placing the perspective position within the volume and rendering from the perspective position. The identification of the boundary and rendering are automated or performed by a processor. Ultrasound data may be used for generating three-dimensional fly-through representations, allowing for virtual endoscopy or other diagnostically useful views of structure or fluid flow channel. Virtual processes are not invasive, allow for more patient comfort, have selectable or different depths of focus, may allow for fly-through of different types of anatomy and may be used as a training tool.

Three-dimensional fly-through systems and methods using ultrasound data

An ultrasonic transducer has a center row of transducers operating at a center row frequency and first and second outer rows of transducers operating at a common frequency or different frequencies lower than the center row frequency. In an enhancement of the ultrasonic transducer array, the center row of transducers has a matching layer with an acoustic velocity that is higher than matching layers that are associated with the first outer row and second outer row transducers. The matching layers can be selected such that the overall thickness of the transducer array is constant. A 1.5D ultrasonic transducer array operating at a higher center frequency and lower outer frequencies is adjustable to allow high resolution near field imaging in addition to better far field imaging without the need for a 2D transducer array.

Multifrequency ultrasonic transducer for 1.5D imaging

In a diagnostic ultrasound imaging system, a sequence of more than two signals is transmitted into the interrogation of the patient's body. In one embodiment of the invention, the pulses are grouped as pairs that have an inverted phase, that is, one is time-domain negative of the other. In an alternative of this embodiment, the pulses need not be paired, but rather are generated with alternating phase characteristics. The return signals are then filtered to isolate (or suppress) return signal components corresponding to portions of the interrogation region with non-linear (or linear) response characteristics. In a second embodiment of the invention, three or more pulses are generated so that have non-equidistant relative phase distribution. By combining the return signals, linear return signal components are suppressed.

Diagnostic ultrasonic imaging system and method for discriminating

An ultrasound system creates ultrasound images at faster frame rate by eliminating ultrasonic transmissions along every beam line. Preferably, ultrasound images are created by alternately transmitting ultrasonic signals on the even and odd transmit beam lines. Parallel beam forming is used where transmissions along a single transmit beam line create echo signals on a pair of receive beam lines. To eliminate the artifact caused by the round-trip beam line sensitivities, echo signals created in response to transmissions along the even transmit beam lines are averaged with echo signals created in response to transmissions on the odd transmit beam lines. The averaged echo signals are used to create an ultrasound image without artifacts.

Method and apparatus for creating ultrasound images using a reduced

A method for generating an ultrasound image that enhances regions occupied by non linear scattering media. The method utilizes first and second ultrasound pulses that are alternatively transmitted into the specimen being imaged. The first and second ultrasound pulses are amplitude modulated harmonic signals, the first ultrasound pulse differing from the second ultrasound pulse by the phase of the harmonic signal. The echo signals generated by these pulses are measured and combined. In one embodiment of the present invention, the first and second ultrasound signals differ by 180 degrees and the echo signals are combined by adding the echo signals generated by each of the ultrasound pulses.
