Gas-barrier multilayer structures and gas-barrier shaped articles are sufficiently prevented from clouding even when exposed to cold water at 30&#xb0; C. or below and have excellent gas barrier properties. Processes for producing such gas-barrier multilayer structures, and coating liquids (A) of excellent coating properties that are used to produce the multilayer structures are also provided. A coating liquid (A) includes a solvent mixture of water and an organic solvent and a polycarboxylic acid polymer partially neutralized with a polyvalent metal wherein the polymer is both dissolved and dispersed as particles in the solvent mixture and wherein the particles dispersed account for 5 to 80 wt% of 100 wt% of the polycarboxylic acid polymer partially neutralized with a polyvalent metal.

Coating liquid, gas-barrier multilayer structure and gas-barrier shaped article therefrom, and process for producing gas-barrier multilayer structure

Provided are aqueous coating liquids that contain ultrafine inorganic compound particles with good dispersibility, and gas barrier laminates of excellent transparency and gas barrier properties that have a layer formed from the coating liquid. The coating liquid includes ultrafine inorganic compound particles, a polyester resin, a sodium polycarboxylate and water. The gas barrier laminate includes a substrate and a gas barrier layer formed on the substrate, wherein the gas barrier layer has a layer (A) formed from the coating liquid and a layer (B) containing a polycarboxylic acid polymer.

Gas barrier multilayer structure precursors are not clouded even when exposed to cold water and have excellent abuse resistance. Gas barrier multilayer structures are obtained from the gas barrier multilayer structure precursors. A gas barrier multilayer structure precursor includes a support and a gas barrier layer precursor formed on the support, the gas barrier layer precursor including a layer (A) and a layer (B), the layer (A) including a polycarboxylic acid polymer and a silicon-containing compound (i) derived from a silane coupling agent represented by Formula (1) below, the weight ratio of the polycarboxylic acid polymer and the silicon-containing compound (i) being in the range of 99.5:0.5 to 80.0:20.0, the layer (B) including a polyvalent metal compound, the layer (A) analyzed by a transmission method showing an infrared absorption spectrum in which the maximum peak height (&#x3b1;) in the range of 1490 to 1659 cmand the maximum peak height (&#x3b2;) in the range of 1660 to 1750 cmhave a ratio (&#x3b1;/&#x3b2;) of less than 1. A gas barrier multilayer structure is obtained by subjecting the gas barrier multilayer structure precursor to retort treatment, boil treatment or humidity conditioning treatment.Si(OR)Z&#x2003;&#x2003;(1)
