A cutting device hygienically cuts a lemon into wedges with a crosscut for hanging the wedges on glasses as served with beverages, such as ice-tea, or cocktails in restaurants or bars. Simple mechanism: the cam mechanism and the gear-rack assembly are driven by two separate manually operated handles that attach to the machine to achieve the slicing actions. Cutting a lemon into wedges with crosscuts is accomplished by simply placing the lemon into the center of the machine and adding pressure in sequence to the two handles by the operator.

A semiconductor chip package carrier assembly is provided with a tray component having depending support legs that support multiple semiconductor chip packages in open package pockets, with a cover component having depending clamping legs in open package pockets that register with the tray component open package pockets, and with snap latches that securely and removably join the cover component to the tray component in a manner whereby each contained semiconductor chip package is locked by the depending support legs and depending clamping legs in a fixed position with respect to the tray and cover components throughout all spatial orientations of the assembly.

An optoelectronic switch for switching an input signal comprises two PIN des connected in series with opposed polarity, an input signal choke connected to the PIN diodes for presenting a high impedance to the input signal and a low impedance to a PIN diode bias, and a photovoltaic cell connected to the PIN diodes and the input signal choke for generating the PIN diode bias to switch the PIN diodes between a substantially conductive state while the photovoltaic cell receives optical energy from a light source and a substantially non-conductive state while the photovoltaic cell does not receive optical energy from the light source.

A resonant driving circuit for a laser diode comprises an impulse generator for generating narrow output pulses, a delay line for generating a composite output of reflections of the output pulses from terminations of the transmission line, a laser diode for generating an optical output from the composite output, and a forward bias network to bias the laser diode.

A novel bridge type optoelectronic (OE) sample and hold circuit based upon current steering demonstrates a clear superiority in performance with respect to a direct OE sample and hold circuit. The bridge type OE sample and hold circuit permits a high-speed signal to be sampled with high accuracy to offer high charging capability, commanding signal isolation, reduced time jitter and reduced holding charge leakage which are distinct advantages over conventional electronic sample and hold circuits.

Single-mode, step-index optical fibers can be fabricated which enable the deband long-distance duplex transmission of data at 1.3 .mu.m and 1.55 .mu.m, where attenuation and dispersion are both minimized. The appropriate index difference between the core and cladding materials and the dimensions of the core diameter are identified and selected to achieve minimum total dispersion at three discrete wavelengths in the single-mode, step-index fibers. The three minimum total dispersion wavelengths results from a cancellation between the material and waveguide dispersions which is owed to the proper selection of the parameters.

Transmission of wideband data through single-mode optical fibers is feasible due to far less dispersion. The appropriate index difference between the core and cladding and the dimensions of the core diameter are identified and selected to achieve minimum total dispersion at 1.55 .mu.m for single-mode step index fibers. A minimum total dispersion results from a cancellation between the material and waveguide dispersions which is owed to the proper selection of these parameters.
