Events generated by customer interaction during an internet-based session are made available for use by a system for tracking the effectiveness of web advertising campaigns. Event occurrences are collected for evaluation to determine whether campaign goals are being met. Campaigns are defined by rules indicating which ad content is to be displayed to which customers. Event types to be reported are selected depending on the needs of the particular campaign.

A system and method for determining eligibility for reimbursement for medical claims for patients may be implemented with computer software which compares a service provider's patient information against a benefit provider's database of covered persons to determine if the patient is eligible for benefits. The service provider records may be compressed by grouping all of the medical claims relating to a particular patient into one cluster represented by a composite medical claim, which may be used to query the benefit provider databases to determine if the patient is recognized. If the patient is recognized, every record within the cluster may be checked against the benefit provider's database to determine whether one or more patient medical claims are eligible for reimbursement.

A remote session server, or bank of remote session servers, is provided to a bank of web servers. Each web server maintains a cache that contains all of the session information for all sessions being serviced by that server. The web server utilizes its local cache to perform all session services. The remote session server maintains a copy of all session information from all caches, and is updated whenever changes are made on each web server. If a web server should go down, an ongoing session can be transferred to a different web server. In such event, the new web server is able to obtain the previous status of the session from the remote web server and continues serving the session in a transparent manner.

A business layer ( ) is coupled to the presentation layer ( ) and provides business logic for use by the presentation layer ( ) in generating the responsive web pages. A trend collection layer ( ) monitors and accumulates historical information from the interaction layer ( ), the presentation layer ( ), the business layer ( ) and the integration layer ( ). The trend collection layer ( ) also stores the historical information in a trend database ( ). A profile database ( ), accessible by the presentation layer ( ) and the business layer ( ), stores profile data, including data mined from the trend database ( ), that characterizes individual user access to the enterprise web system. The profile data is used by the presentation layer ( ) and the business layer ( ) to provide customized dynamic content in the generated web pages.
