A data storage apparatus is presented that includes a well structure comprising a suspension medium, and a magnetic particle disposed in at least a portion of the well structure. A control system is configured to represent a data state corresponding to a positioning of the magnetic particle within the well structure, the magnetic particle moved responsive to an applied field and a present material state of the well structure. Various addressable arrays of well structures and associated control elements can be established to form data storage devices.

Movable magnetic particle memory device

The slow speed of conventional selective electroplating and L-PED (and further requirement of a series of masks in the case of selective electroplating) necessary to generate a metallic three-dimensional object makes conventional selective electroplating and L-PED not viable for mass manufacturing metallic three-dimensional objects. The presently disclosed technology generally utilizes electroplating and L-PED technologies with a screen electroplating process. The screen electroplating process disclosed herein is capable of achieving a faster throughput and a lower workpiece temperature than traditional 3D printing processes can provide, particularly traditional metal 3D printing processes. As a result, the presently disclosed screen electroplating process is able to achieve much faster results in printing a complex three-dimensional metallic structure using electroplating.

Selective screen electroplating

Connector devices or connectors for use in interconnection to a circuit board may be configured in an open or closed configuration. The connectors devices may utilize a shape memory alloy (SMA) actuator to move clamping portions with respect to each other into one or both of the open or closed positions.

A data storage chassis includes a plurality of data storage cartridges, and printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) electronics selectively connectable to one or more of the plurality of data storage cartridges. The data storage chassis also includes a wireless interface controller communicatively coupled to the PCBA electronics. A data storage device includes a data storage disc, an arm, a head, a rotary actuator, and an elevator. The disc has a read/write surface defining an x-y plane. The arm includes a load beam. The head is supported by the load beam, and the head is configured to interact with the read/write surface. The rotary actuator is configured to move a first portion of the arm about a first pivot axis in the x-y plane. The elevator is configured to move the arm in a z direction relative to a vertical surface and is configured to frictionally engage the vertical surface to hold the arm at a z direction position while allowing the rotary actuator to move the first portion of the arm about the first pivot axis. In another aspect, an apparatus includes a stack block, first and second clamp arm assemblies, and first and second piezoelectric actuators.

Zero skew elevator system

A data storage device (DSD) includes a base-deck, a disc above the base-deck, and a shaft extending perpendicular from the base-deck. The DSD also includes a head stack assembly (HSA) including a head gimbal assembly having a load beam and a head at a first end of the HSA. The head interacts with a surface of the disc. The HSA also includes a second end movably mounted on the shaft. The DSD additionally includes an elevator that linearly moves the HSA along the shaft to adjust a distance between the load beam and the surface of the disc in response to receiving a feedback signal associated with the interaction of the head with the surface of the disc. The feedback signal is one of a plurality of feedback signals employed by the elevator to adjust the distance between the load beam and the surface of the disc.

A system includes a library compartment, a player and a gas generator. The library compartment houses a plurality of data storage disks. The player is external to the library compartment and comprises a head that is configured to interact with at least one of the plurality of data storage disks. The gas generator is fluidly connected to the player. An embodiment includes a partition between the library compartment and player, the partition including a selectively openable interlock. In an embodiment, the player has a negative fluid pressure relative to the library compartment. A method of controlling an environment in a disk player is also described. The method includes detecting a composition of a fluid environment in the disk player and detecting a pressure of the fluid environment in the disk player.

A brake crawler assembly configured for vertically moving an arm assembly along a pivot member in a multi-disk hard disk drive is provided. The brake crawler assembly includes a first clamp, including a first recess within which is disposed a first actuator and a first clamp calibration element. The first clamp calibration element includes a first clamp calibration access portion adapted to be accessible externally of the first clamp and adapted to receive a first external adjustment and a first clamp internal compression modifier adapted to modify a force exerted by the first actuator on the first recess, responsive to the received first external adjustment, wherein the first clamp is configured to selectively engage the pivot member at a position along the pivot member relative to at least one disk of the multi-disk hard disk drive based on the modified force exerted.

The presently disclosed technology is directed to maximizing cleanliness, reliability, and space efficiency within a jukebox-style HDD, while minimizing overall cost of the HDD. In an effort to reduce the movement of a robotic arm assembly, cassettes within a jukebox-style HDD may be configured to be magnetically repositionable to replace some of the movement of the robotic arm assembly, without adding another significant source of potential mechanical failure within the HDD enclosure. Further, the overall number of moving parts is reduced, which may improve reliability of the HDD, as well as cleanliness within the HDD enclosure.

The ramp motion control module is configured to provide the movement mechanism with a first control signal that causes the movement mechanism to move the ramp from the first position to the second position. A data storage device includes a base, a shaft that extends perpendicular from the base, and a head stack assembly (HSA) having a first end to which a head is coupled and a second end that is movably mounted on the shaft.
