The present disclosure relates to downhole fluid additives including a clay, a hydroxylated polymer, a cation, and water. The disclosure further relates to downhole fluids, including drilling fluids, spaces, cements, and proppant delivery fluids containing such as downhole fluid additive and methods of using such fluids. The downhole fluid additive may have any of a variety of functions in the downhole fluid and may confer any of a variety of properties upon it, such as salt tolerance or desired viscosities even at high downhole temperatures.

Downhole fluids and methods of use thereof

The present application provides a gas-generating aqueous fluid containing a gas-generating compound like an azo compound, and an organic amine like a primary, secondary or tertiary amine, a hydrazine, a hydrazide, or a semicarbazide. The aqueous fluid may also a viscosifier, and a foaming surfactant. The present application also provides a method of using the gas-generating composition to modulate density of a wellbore fluid for use in downhole applications. The method optionally includes adding an oxidizer to the wellbore fluid.

Methods for producing proppants with block copolymer proppant coating include coating proppant particles with the block copolymer proppant coating to produce coated proppants with block copolymer proppant coating. The block copolymer proppant coating is a block copolymer composition having at least one copolymer backbone. Each copolymer backbone comprises at least two hard segments and a soft segment disposed between the at least two hard segments. Additionally, a proppant comprising a proppant particle and a block copolymer proppant coating includes a block copolymer composition having at least one copolymer backbone, in which each copolymer backbone comprises at least two hard segments. A soft segment is disposed between the at least two hard segments. The copolymer backbone has at least one anhydride group grafted onto the soft segment. Furthermore, the anhydride group is crosslinked by an amine-containing crosslinker.

Coated proppants and methods of making and use thereof

A nanosilica containing fluid system for shale stabilization in a shale formation. The nanosilica containing fluid system comprising a functionalized nanosilica composition operable to react with shale at the surface of the shale formation to form a barrier on the shale formation. The functionalized nanosilica composition comprising a nanosilica particle, the nanosilica particle having a mean diameter, and a functionalization compound, the functionalization compound appended to the surface of the nanosilica particle. And an aqueous-based fluid, the aqueous-based fluid operable to carry the functionalized nanosilica composition into the shale formation. The functionalization compound is an amino silane. The aqueous-based fluid is selected from the group consisting of water, deionized water, sea water, brine, and combinations thereof.

Embodiments provide a method of encapsulating a solid cement additive. The method includes the step of applying a base film-forming monomer to the solid cement additive. The method includes the step of forming a coating layer surrounding the solid cement additive. The coating layer includes the base film-forming monomer. The method includes the step of applying an overlay film-forming monomer to the coating layer surrounding the solid cement additive. The method includes the step of reacting the base film-forming monomer and the overlay film-forming monomer to produce a polymer shell. The solid cement additive includes solid particles useful in cementing applications. The polymer shell includes a crosslinked polymer. The polymer shell surrounds the solid cement additive. The polymer shell has a permeability to water allowing controlled release of the solid cement additive.

A composition for use as a latex cement additive, the composition comprising an aqueous latex, the aqueous latex comprising an aqueous fluid and a solid elastomer, where the solid elastomer is dispersed in the aqueous fluid; a liquid elastomer, the liquid elastomer having a viscosity between 50,000 cP and 300,000 cP at room temperature; and a surfactant, the surfactant operable to facilitate incorporation of the liquid elastomer into the aqueous latex.

Cement compositions comprising aqueous latex containing dispersed solid and liquid elastomer phases

An oil-swellable lost circulation material (LCM) formed from an elastomeric polymer and a crosslinker amine is provided. The LCM may be formed from elastomeric polymer particles, a crosslinker amine, an anti-agglomerating agent, and may also be formed using a cure accelerator. A mixture of the elastomeric polymer particles, the crosslinker amine, the anti-agglomerating agent, and in some mixtures the cure accelerator, may be hot rolled at a temperature of at least 120&#xb0; F. for a duration. The resulting LCM may swell by absorbing about 20 to about 34 times its weight when introduced to a loss circulation zone in the presence of a non-aqueous fluid such as a drilling mud or component of a drilling mud.

The present application provides an aqueous fluid containing a gas-generating compound such as an azo compound, a hydrazide compound, or a semicarbazide compound. The aqueous fluid may also contain an amine compound, an oxidizer, or viscosifier, and a foaming surfactant. The aqueous composition may be storable at pH of less than about 5 without any appreciable gas generation, and may be activated to produce gas when mixed with a wellbore fluid for use in downhole applications.

Cement slurries, cured cements, and methods of making cured cement and methods of using cement slurries are provided. The cement slurries have, among other attributes, improved elasticity and self-healing properties and may be used, for instance, in the oil and gas drilling industry. The cement slurry comprises water, a cement precursor material, and a block copolymer composition. The block copolymer composition has at least one copolymer backbone, with each copolymer backbone comprising at least two hard segments. Furthermore, a soft segment is disposed between the at least two hard segments.
