An internal combustion engine includes working cylinders and a fresh gas line for supplying fresh gas to the working cylinders. The fresh gas line has a charge air section. A mechanically driven compressor is disposed in the charge air section of the fresh gas line. An air control/shut-off flap is disposed in the charge air section such that, in dependence on a position of the air control/shut-off flap, a gas mass flow in the charge air section flows completely or partially via the mechanically driven compressor or flows past the mechanically driven compressor. A method for operating an internal combustion engine is also provided.

Internal combustion engine including a booster

An internal combustion engine has a working cylinder with two intake valves and two exhaust valves assigned thereto. A first camshaft and a second camshaft each actuate a respective one of the intake valves and a respective one of the exhaust valves. The first camshaft is a variable camshaft with an adjuster for adjusting valve control times and includes an outer shaft, which is a hollow shaft, and an inner shaft, which is disposed within the outer shaft. The outer shaft as well as the inner shaft are rotatable by the adjuster and are rotatable relative to one another by the adjuster such that relative positions of given cams controlling given ones of the intake and exhaust valves are changeable. The second camshaft is driven by a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine and is configured as a fixed camshaft.

Internal combustion engine and method for operating an internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine has a high-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation line and a low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation line with a low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation valve. The low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation line branches off from the exhaust-gas system downstream of a turbine of an exhaust-gas turbocharger and opens into a fresh-air system upstream of a compressor of the exhaust-gas turbocharger. An exhaust-gas flap is disposed in the exhaust-gas system downstream from where the low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation line branches off from the exhaust-gas system. At least one pressure sensor is disposed in the low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation line and configured such that the at least one pressure sensor determines a pressure difference in the low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation line between a point upstream of the low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation valve and a point downstream of the low-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation valve. A method for operating an internal combustion engine is also provided.

Internal combustion engine with an exhaust-gas recirculation and method for operating an internal combustion engine

A method for operating an internal combustion engine includes providing at least one gas exchange valve that is used by at least one of the working cylinders of the internal combustion engine as an exhaust-gas recirculation valve. In a predetermined operating state of the internal combustion engine, the exhaust-gas recirculation valve is opened at least twice within a working cycle of 720 degrees of the crankshaft, wherein an opening duration of the first opening of the exhaust-gas recirculation valve at least overlaps in time with an opening of the outlet valve during the exhaust stroke and wherein an opening duration of the second opening of the exhaust-gas recirculation valve at least overlaps in time with an opening duration of the inlet valve during the intake stroke, wherein the exhaust-gas recirculation valve is closed between the first opening and the second opening.

Method for operating an internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine which operates in accordance with an auto-ignition principle includes at least one working cylinder, at least two inlet valves per working cylinder and at least one outlet valve per working cylinder. The internal combustion engine has a first camshaft and a second camshaft. The second camshaft actuates at least one of the inlet valves per working cylinder and actuates at least one outlet valve per working cylinder. The internal combustion engine has an adjuster disposed at the second camshaft. The adjuster adjusts valve control times of the inlet and outlet valves actuated by the second camshaft selectively in an early direction and a late direction in relation to valve control times of the first camshaft. A method for operating an internal combustion engine is also provided.
