Disclosed are human milk fat (HMF) substitutes, processes for preparation thereof, uses thereof, and fat blends and formula containing the HMF substitutes. A fat base composition of the invention includes a mixture of vegetable-derived triglycerides, with less than 50% of the fatty acid residues bonded at the sn-2 position being saturated; and/or with the amount of saturated fatty acid residues bonded at the sn-2 position of the glycerol backbone less than about 43.5% of the total amount of the fatty acid residues. Typically, substantially all of the saturated fatty acids bonded at the sn-2 position of the glycerol backbone are palmitic acid residues. Also disclosed are substitute HMF compositions including a blend of at least 25% or at least 30% of the fat base composition of the invention with up to 75%, or respectively up to 70%, of at least one vegetable oil. Processes for preparing the fat base compositions and blend are also disclosed. Further disclosed are infant formulas including the fat base composition or substitute human milk fat composition.

Process for the preparation of human milk fat substitutes

The invention described herein provides a preparation comprising a non-mammalian derived mixture of serine glycerophospholipid conjugates with a specific content and specific conjugation patterns of LA, linolenic acid (alpha-linolenic acid, gamma-linolenic acid) DHA and EPA which depend on utilizing different sources of lipids and uses of such preparations.

Glycerophospholipids for the improvement of cognitive functions

Disclosed herein are polar lipid mixtures, comprising glycerophospholipids such as phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylserine (PS) and phosphatidyl-inositol (PI), and sphingolipids such as sphyngomyelin (SM). Most importantly, the ratio of phospholipids in said mixture is comparable to that of HMF, and is represented by SM&#x3e;PC&#x3e;PE&#x3e;PS&#x3e;PI or SM=PC&#x3e;PE&#x3e;PS&#x3e;PI. Processes for the preparation of said mixtures and uses thereof are also described herein.

Polar lipid mixtures, their preparation and uses

Human milk fat substitutes

The invention provides an enzymatically-prepared fat base composition which comprises a mixture of vegetable-derived triglycerides. The fat base composition has a total palmitic acid residues content of at most 38% of the total fatty acid residues, and at least 60%, preferably 62% of the fatty acid moieties at the sn-2 position of the glycerol backbone are palmitic acid residues, at least 70% of the fatty acid moieties at the sn-1 and sn-3 positions of the glycerol backbone are unsaturated, at least 40%, preferably 40-60%, of the unsaturated fatty acid moieties at the sn-1 and sn-3 positions are oleic acid moieties, and at least 6%, preferably 6-17%, of the unsaturated fatty acid moieties at the sn-1 and sn-3 positions are linoleic acid moieties. The invention also provides preparation and various uses of the fat base composition in the field of infant nutrition.

Human breast milk lipid mimetic as a dietary supplement

The invention provides methods for treatment of conditions which require phytosterol therapy without adversely affecting the bioavailability of lipophilic vitamins or lipophilic drugs. The method includes administering a mixture of phytosterol ester(s) (PS-E) and 1,3-diglyceride(s) (DAG) dissolved in an edible oil or fat. The invention also provides a method of improving weight management and a method of treating metabolic conditions that result in overweight. Dietary nutrients, food supplements and food articles containing the mixture are also provided.

Treatment methods requiring phyto-ingredients

Disclosed is a dietary ingredient comprising at least one edible lipid which does not inhibit mineral absorption, enhances mineral absorption and intake, particularly a chemically or enzymatically synthesized synthetic oil, particularly glyceride-based lipid with high levels of mono- or polyunsaturated fatty acids at positions sn-1 and sn-3 of the glycerol backbone, vegetable- and plant-derived oil, such as flax and canola oils, short and medium chains lipid, preferably MCT and an oil mimicking the triglyceride composition of human mother's milk fat and its various uses. The dietary ingredient is particularly intended for use in enhancing calcium absorption and in the prevention and/or treatment of disorders associated with depletion of bone calcium and bone density, prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, for the enhancement of bone formation and bone mass maximization and for the enhancement of bone formation in infants and young children.

Lipid preparation for enhancing mineral absorption

Described herein are various lipid mixtures, more particularly special mixtures of fatty acids esters, which may be phytosterol esters and/or glyceride esters. Said mixtures are evaluated in the context of their ability to, upon consumption, affect the levels of circulating LDL and HDL particles, and their therapeutic effect on conditions associated with lipid metabolism, such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, metabolic disorders, etc. Compositions, dietary nutrients, food supplements and nutraceuticals comprising the herein described mixtures are also described.

Oils enriched with diacylglycerols and phytosterol esters and unit dosage forms thereof for use in therapy

A lipid preparation including a glycerophospholipid or salt, conjugate and derivatives thereof, particularly phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidyl-inositol (PI), phosphatidylglycerol (PG) and phosphatidic acid (PA), and poly-unsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) acyl groups, particularly long-chain poly-unsaturated fatty acid (LC-PUFA) acyl groups such as omega-3 and/or omega-6 acyl groups, wherein said PUFA is covalently bound to said glycerophospholipid. The preparation possesses an improved bioactivity, and is useful in the treatment of various cognitive and mental conditions and disorders and for maintenance of normal functions of brain-related systems and processes.

Lipids containing omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids

Disclosed are stable PS preparations, in powder, liquid and dispersion forms, as well as methods of producing thereof. Most importantly, the stable PS preparations are particularly devoid of residual phospholipase D activity, and the methods of eliminating such activity are also described herein. Lastly, uses of these PS preparations in nutraceuticals or as active agents of pharmaceutical compositions are also provided herein.

Stabilized formulations of phosphatidylserine

Disclosed herein is a lipid preparation, said preparation comprising a phosphatidylserine moiety, and poly-unsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) acyl groups, particularly long-chain poly-unsaturated fatty acid (LC-PUFA) acyl groups such as omega-3 and/or omega-6 acyl groups, wherein said PUFA is covalently bound to said glycerophospholipid. Said lipid preparations are particularly useful in the treatment of mental and cognitive disorders, e.g. ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and Alzheimer's disease. The disclosed preparations present improved bioactivity, and are useful in the treatment of various cognitive and mental conditions and disorders, as well as for maintenance of normal functions of brain-related systems and processes.
