A testing system useful for food products employs a multispecies testing array to test for presence or amount of a plurality of organisms in a sample by detecting plural characteristic sequences for each of plural organisms to form a multispecies distribution output or microbial profile, and this is processed or used in conjunction with data mining or other processing to provide trend, warning or other data. The processor correlates and stores information relating to taste, smell, texture, processing conditions, quality or source of a component or ingredient, potential pathogenicity or other factor, with correlations on a multidimensional space yielding new preconditions or warning indications, and providing a mechanism for specialization of the species distribution data for specific products, as well as for incorporation or development of process changes and company trade secrets.

Multispecies food testing and characterization organoleptic properties

A method is provided for the identification of polymorphic markers in a population. The method includes genotypically characterizing a first sample of a population, selecting one or more individuals of the first sample based upon the genotypic characterization, fabricating a microarray with genomic DNA from each individual selected, and genotyping a second sample of the population using each fabricated microarray as a reference, thereby identifying the polymorphic markers in the population. Also provided is a method for the identification of polymorphic markers in a bacterial population. The method includes phenotypically characterizing a first sample of a population, selecting one or more individuals of the first sample based upon the phenotypic characterization, fabricating a microarray with genomic DNA from each individual selected, and genotyping a second sample of the population using each fabricated microarray as a reference, thereby identifying the polymorphic markers in the population. Also provided is a method for identifying unique bits among a plurality of bit strings including providing a plurality of bit strings, wherein each string has the same number and position of bits, and each bit has a value of 0 or 1, generating a graphical representation&mdash;including selectable elements&mdash;representing the relatedness of the bit strings, making a selection of a first selectable element, making a selection of a second selectable element, and identifying bits that are present in each bit string represented by the first selectable element and absent in each bit string represented by the second selectable element, or vice-versa.

Method for identifying polymorphic markers in a population

Polynucleotides that comprise regulatory regions of the yeast alcohol oxidase 1 promoter are provided. Isolated polynucleotides, recombinant polynucleotides, vectors, expression cassettes and transformed cells containing the regulatory regions are disclosed. Proteins produced by the transformed cells are also provided.

Alcohol oxidase 1 regulatory nucleotide sequences for heterologous gene expression in yeast

A method is disclosed for the detection of polymorphisms in a DNA sequence based on nucleotide differences. DNA sequences from different sources are amplified by the polymerase chain reaction using primers based on strand biased, over represented oligonucleotide sequences and differences in the nucleotide sequences of the amplification products determined. Also disclosed are methods for the identification of individuals, or the species, strain or serotype of an organism using the method of the present invention. In addition, kits are disclosed for the determination of polymorphisms using the method of the present invention. The ability to determine genetic polymorphisms has widespread application in areas such as genome mapping, genetic linkage studies, medical diagnosis, epidemiological studies, forensics and agriculture.
