Welcome to the 6th of June 2023: Our goal is to celebrate the pioneering inventor recognitions who have reached noteworthy milestones in their fields this week.
Willy Rachmady
He received a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Lafayette College, Easton, PA, USA, in 1996; and a Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, State College, PA, USA, in 2001.
Dr. Rachmady joined Intel Corporation, Hillsboro, OR, USA, in 2002, where he is a Principal Engineer in the Components Research, Technology Development Group.
He currently leads the research and development efforts in emerging silicon and non-silicon nanoelectronics devices, 3-D process integration, and interconnects. Mr. Rachmady also served as an advisory board member to NSF and academic research centers.
Patent №: 11670682 (June 6, 2023) – FINFET transistor having a doped sub fin structure to reduce channel to substrate leakage. The apparatus is a high-tech FINFET device with a channel made of one semiconductor material on a sub fin structure, placed on a substrate. A doped region in the sub fin structure prevents leakage currents, boosting performance and reliability.
Jaehyung Kim
Solution Advisory at LG CNS Co., Ltd. since Apr. 1995.
Patent №: 11671794 (June 6, 2023) – Apparatus and method for sending and receiving broadcast signals. The device consists of a tuner for adjusting a broadcast signal, a pilot detector to identify pilots within the tuned signal, and a de-framer for analyzing the signal frame of the broadcast. Additionally, there is a decoder in the device responsible for decoding the PLP data.
Toru Oizumi
Engineer at Nissan Motor Corporation.
Mr. Oizumi received a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Electrical and Electronic from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2005.
Patent №: 11671950 (June 6, 2023) –Communication apparatus and communication method. The invention minimizes A/N resource usage and maintains error detection timing in varying UL-DL configurations for unit bands. The control unit transmits a response signal through the first unit band, including error detection results from both the first and second unit bands.
Ryoko Matsuo
She received an M.E. degree in electrical engineering from Keio University in 2001; and a Ph.D. degree in 2015.
In 2001, she joined Toshiba Corporation and engaged in research and development of wireless signal processing.
From 2003 to 2005, Ryoko was a researcher at Toshiba America Research, Inc.
Now, she is a senior manager of the wireless system laboratory, Information and Communications Platform Laboratories, and Corporate Research & Development Center.
2017-2021, an associate editor of Transactions on Communications. From 2020, she engages in the IEEE Technical program committee (TPC), and the IEEE Tokyo section and from 2023 she is a chair of the IEEE TPC.
Patent №: 11671851 (June 6, 2023) – Wireless communication device, wireless communication terminal and wireless communication method. A wireless communication device includes a receiver that receives a first field and multiplexed second fields. If the first field lacks device identification, the receiver decodes one of the second fields to obtain a frame. A controller in the device restricts access to the wireless medium based on a value in the frame for a specific time period.
Takeshi Yamamoto
NEC Corporation Corporate Strategy Division.
Patent №: 11671685 (June 6, 2023) – Image capturing apparatus. The image-capturing apparatus has a camera unit, supporting members, a fixation member, a drive member, a heat-generating member, a first cover member, and a second cover member. The fixation member takes in the exhausted air and releases internal air. The heat-generating member sits in the airflow between the intake and exhaust openings of the second cover member.
Patent №: 11672169 (June 6, 2023) – Organic electroluminescent element.
William C Fang
CTO at Enseo.
Mr. Fang received BSEE in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1985; his MSEE in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Southern Methodist University in 1991.
Patent №: 11671650 (June 6, 2023) – Set-top box with enhanced behavioural controls and system and method for use of same. The invention is an advanced set-top box with enhanced behavioural controls. It can pair with an electronic door-locking apparatus and reprogram it based on a presence signal. It also controls amenities such as the display.
Thomas W Holcomb
Principal Software Engineer at Microsoft since Dec. 1999.
Mr. Holcomb received M.S. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Washington.
Patent №: 11671608 (June 6, 2023) – Decoding jointly coded transform type and subblock pattern information. A decoder decodes variable length codes (VLCs) at the macroblock and block levels. These VLCs represent transform type, subblock pattern, and other information. Multiple VLC tables can be chosen by the decoder for efficient decoding at both levels.
