By utilizing channel measurements and advanced algorithms, this technology enables efficient and accurate channel state information reporting, thereby enhancing the performance of wireless networks.

Patent №: 11778572 (October 3, 2023) – Lite SL-SS (sidelink synchronization signal) transmission for on demand S-SSB (sidelink synchronization signal block).

Patent №: 11777671 (October 3, 2023) – Repetition techniques for autonomous uplink transmissions.

This describes improvements in wireless communication for devices like smartphones. It involves a base station telling a device (UE) how to send data on the network. The instructions include the first time to send data and when to retry if there are issues. These retries are made more reliable by choosing specific time slots and avoiding conflicts with other devices’ transmissions. The goal is to make wireless communication more efficient and reliable.

Patent №: 11778631 (October 3, 2023) –Transmission of group common PDCCH (physical downlink control channel) for NR (new radio).

This patent addresses techniques that enable efficient transmission and reception of group common PDCCH (Physical Downlink Control Channel) for NR (New Radio). By employing intelligent circuitry, user equipment (UE) can process higher-layer signaling to configure slot formats and decode Downlink Control Information (DCI) messages. This innovation fosters enhanced flexibility and reliability in wireless communications.

Dr. Zhang received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electronic Engineering both from Tsinghua University and his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2015 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Where he worked on III-V nanowire material growth and nanowire transistors. Upon graduation, he received the Gregory Stillman Semiconductor Research Award from ECE at UIUC.

Dr. Zhang joined IBM Research in 2015 and has been working on various aspects of exploratory CMOS devices.

He is an IBM Master Inventor.

Patent №: 11777034 (October 3, 2023) – Hybrid complementary field effect transistor device.

This patent introduces a stacked transistor design. This innovative configuration comprises a nanosheet transistor device on a substrate, combined with a fin field-effect transistor device positioned over the nanosheet transistor. This arrangement allows for perpendicular current flow through the fin field-effect transistor device, enhancing performance and functionality.
