Mr. Li received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electronic engineering from Southeast University, Nanjing, China, in 2003, and a Ph.D. degree in nanoscale engineering from the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, University at Albany-SUNY, Albany, NY, USA, in 2010.

He joined IBM Research at Albany Nanotech, Albany, NY, USA, in 2010, where he is currently a Senior Engineer with the Department of Inline Characterization and Advanced Failure Analysis.

His research interests include advanced analytical characterizations of emerging CMOS and non-volatile memory technologies.

Juntao is the author or a coauthor of more than 100 technical journal articles and conference proceedings, and one book chapter. He is a Master Inventor of IBM.

Patent №: 11728433 (August 15, 2023) – Vertical transistor with self-aligned gate.

This method creates a vertical transistor. It involves forming two sets of vertical fins on separate layers, each in its own row. The vertical fins in the same row have a certain distance between them, and those in adjacent rows have another gap distance. A gate metal layer is added on these vertical fins, leaving gaps between fins in the same column. Then, a cover layer plug fills the remaining gaps.

Thomas Wiegand

Mr. Wiegand received a Dipl.-Ing. degree in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg, Germany, in 1995, and a Dr.-Ing. degree from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, in 2000.

As a student, he was a Visiting Researcher at Kobe University, Japan, the University of California at Santa Barbara and Stanford University, USA, where he also returned as a Visiting Professor.

Thomas was a consultant and co-founder of several start-up companies. He is currently a Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Technical University of Berlin. He is jointly the Head of the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute, Berlin, Germany.

Since 1995, Wiegand has been an active participant in multimedia standardization with many successful submissions to ITU-T and ISO/IEC. For his research, he received numerous research and innovation awards and various best paper awards for his publications.

Since 2014, Thomson Reuters named him in their list of “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” as one of the most cited researchers in his field. He has been elected to the German National Academy of Engineering (Acatech) and the National Academy of Science (Leopoldina).

Since 2018, he has been appointed the Chair of the ITU/WHO Focus Group on Artificial Intelligence for Health.

Patent №: 11729426 (August 15, 2023) – Block-based predictive coding and decoding of a picture.

This method uses a previously processed version of a nearby block to improve predictive coding for a target block. By analyzing and modifying the spectral composition of the neighbourhood and a predicted filling of the target block, coding efficiency is enhanced.
