Research Scientist in nanophotonics at MIT

Scientific researcher on classical electromagnetic phenomena in the optical and microwave frequency regimes and applications on device/system designs for information transfer/processing (telecommunications/computing), energy transfer etc.
Specialties: nano-photonics and plasmonics (including photonic/plasmonic crystals), microwave (meta-material and meta-surface design), near-field thermophotovoltaics, wireless energy transfer (theory and experiments).

Mr. Karalis received ScB in Electrical EngineeringScB, Electrical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (2001). ScM and ScD degrees in Electrical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2003 and 2008 respectively.

Yue-Yun Wang received a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China.
In 1995, he joined Cummins Engine Company, Columbus, IN, USA, as a Technical Advisor.
In 2005, Yue-Yun Wang joined General Motors Company, where he is currently a Technical Fellow; leading the advanced development of vehicle propulsion control systems.
His current research interests include modelling and simulation, model-based multivariable control, artificial intelligence, detection and estimation with application to vehicle propulsion control systems.
Dr. Wang is also a fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Christian Helmrich

Research Associate at Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI)

received a B.Sc. degree in computer science from Capitol College, Laurel, USA, in 2005. M.Sc. degree in information and media technologies from Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), Germany, in 2008.

Since then he has been working on numerous speech and audio coders for Fraunhofer IIS in Erlangen, Germany, partly as a Senior Engineer.

Mr. Helmrich is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in audio analysis and coding at the International Audio Laboratories Erlangen. His main research interests include audio and video coding as well as restoration from analog sources.
