developed a penicillin treatment for syphilis

Mahoney’s most significant contribution was in infectious diseases, particularly syphilis. He led the team that first demonstrated the effectiveness of penicillin in treating syphilis in the early 1940s. invented the early telephone

Elisha Gray's drawing of liquid transmitter made on February 11, 1876

Gray is best known for developing a telephone prototype in 1876 in Highland Park, Illinois. Some recent authors have argued that Gray should be considered the true inventor of the telephone because Alexander Graham Bell allegedly stole the idea of the liquid transmitter from him. Although Gray had previously used liquid transmitters in his telephone experiments for more than two years, Bell’s telephone patent was upheld in numerous court decisions.

Gray is also considered to be the father of the modern music synthesizer.

Koichi Tanaka

Date of Birth: August 3, 1959

developed a method for mass spectrometric analysis of biological macromolecules

Japanese electrical engineer who shared the 2002 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with John Bennett Fenn and Kurt Wüthrich. In February 1985, he discovered that using a mixture of ultra-fine metal powder in glycerol as a matrix allowed the ionization of macromolecules without fragmentation when subjected to laser irradiation. This technique, known as soft laser desorption (SLD), was patented in 1985 and presented at the Mass Spectrometry Society of Japan’s Annual Conference in May 1987.

During this period, the French Republic faced an economic blockade, which prevented the import of British graphite, the primary source of pencils. Carnot tasked Conté with developing a pencil that did not depend on foreign materials. After several days of experimentation, Conté mixed powdered graphite with clay and encased it between two half-cylinders of wood, creating the modern pencil. He received a patent for this invention in 1795 and established la Société Conté to manufacture the pencils. Conté also invented the conté crayon, a hard pastel stick popular among artists.
