Esmael has over twenty years of research and development experience with tech firms such as WorldCom, Bechtel Communications, Sprint, and Clearwire. He led research and development projects in wireless and wireline networking technologies, including LTE-Advanced, Evolved Packet Core, 5G New Radio, 5G Core Networks, and Wi-Fi technologies.

Esmael received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia in 2001.

Patent №: 12133267 (October 29, 2024) – Random access procedures using multiple active bandwidth parts. Wireless communications with multiple active resources, like bandwidth parts (BWP), can use a set rule to determine the specific downlink (DL) or uplink (UL) BWP for sending messages. A device or base station may limit the active BWPs monitored for responses.

Patent №: 12133198 (October 29, 2024) – Beam control for repetitions. Transmission repetition can be used in wireless communications, including control channel repetition for scheduling between a base station and a device. The interval between control and scheduled communications may be below a set threshold. The device may select a resource from a default pool, a pool for repeated control channels, or as specified by the control channel.

Patent №: 12133183 (October 29, 2024) – Prioritization of sidelink and uplink transmissions. A wireless device may assess whether a sidelink transmission has higher priority than an uplink transmission by comparing its priority value against a threshold. For ultra-reliable low latency (URLLC) uplink transmissions, the device uses a higher priority threshold, while for non-URLLC uplink transmissions, it uses a lower threshold.

Patent №: 12133176 (October 29, 2024) – Power control in wireless communications. Wireless communications may utilize multiple resource pools or transmission/reception points, each with distinct pathloss references. A wireless device can receive messages specifying multiple power control parameter sets linked to each resource pool or transmission/reception point.

Patent №: 12133113 (October 29, 2024) – Base station header compression and decompression. This process includes sending a radio resource control (RRC) message with packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) parameters to enable Ethernet header compression for a data radio bearer. It also involves providing information on the source and destination MAC addresses and a header compression index. Finally, the base station may send a compressed Ethernet packet, including a compressed packet header and the corresponding header compression index.

Patent №: 12132911 (October 29, 2024) – BVD sign inference in IBC based on BV and BVP components. A decoder receives an indication of a block vector predictor (BVP) from a bitstream for a block vector (BV). It determines the sign of a component in the block vector difference (BVD) using components of the BV and BVP. The decoder then decodes the BV using the BVP and BVD and generates an intra block compensated prediction for a current block (CB) based on the BV.

Patent №: 12132672 (October 29, 2024) – Time alignment timer information. A base station distributed unit may send a timing advance command to a wireless device for a timing advance group and start a time alignment timer in response. It may notify the base station central unit by transmitting a message indicating the timer’s expiration for the device’s timing advance group.
