This week, we aim to celebrate the centurion patentors who have reached noteworthy milestones in their fields.
Vice President of Engineering at Qualcomm. Qualcomm Fellow. IEEE Fellow. Co-founder of Flarion Technologies. A pioneer of OFDMA.
Qualcomm Fellow. IEEE Fellow. A key inventor of Flash-OFDM, the first commercially deployed OFDMA-based mobile broadband wireless communications system.
A founding member of Flarion Technologies, a startup acquired by Qualcomm in 2006. In Qualcomm, Junyi has spearheaded research projects on D2D communications, V2V communications, and mmWave communications.
Co-authored the book, “OFDMA Mobile Broadband Communications,” published by Cambridge University Press.
Patent №: 12200766 – Coordinated clear channel assessment (CCA) for wireless repeaters. Systems enable coordinated clear channel assessments (CCAs) in shared radiofrequency bands. A device receives a CCA trigger, performs a CCA, exchanges success signals, initiates channel occupancy time (COT), and forwards communication during the COT.
Patent №: 12200746 – Active interference cancellation for sidelink communications. Systems and techniques for wireless communications are disclosed. A method includes determining an active interference cancellation (AIC) area for sidelink communication protection and identifying frequency subcarriers to reduce interference within the AIC area.
Patent №: 12200669 – Cross-carrier feedback with sidelink carrier aggregation. A user equipment (UE) receives a configuration for sidelink carrier aggregation and cross-carrier feedback parameters, processes transmission blocks on multiple component carriers, and transmits feedback on a third carrier, including ACK/NACK bits and their associations with carriers or transmission blocks.
Patent №: 12200599 – Discovery of reconfigurable surfaces. A sensing signal is transmitted, and a detected signal is combined with a unique modulation sequence assigned to the surface, allowing the device to determine the surface’s presence in a geographic region.
Patent №: 12200532 – Delay bounds in integrated access and backhaul network. A method for wireless communication at an IAB node involves receiving delay parameters from an IAB donor and determining an access PDB for an air link with a child node or UE based on the received parameters.
Patent №: 12200509 – Using base stations for air-interface-based environment sensing without user equipment assistance. Techniques for environment sensing involve coordination among base stations. A transmitter base station configures and sends an RF sensing signal, while a receiver base station uses the signal to detect target objects.
Patent №: 12199922 – Channel quality indicator reporting across multiple subbands. Wireless communication supports group CQI reporting. A UE determines and reports a group CQI index from reference signals, enabling the base station to derive subband CQI indices.
Patent №: 12199734 – Techniques for using multi-connected repeaters in wireless communications. Aspects involve establishing control connections with nodes to enable a repeater function between wireless nodes. Control information is used to provide the function, resolve conflicts, and ensure seamless operation for upstream nodes.
Patent №: 12199732 – Beam failure detection and recovery for sidelink user equipments. A receiving UE obtains sidelink control information (SCI) from a transmitting UE, determines a block error rate (BLER), and performs beam failure recovery if the BLER meets a threshold.
Patent №: 12199709 – Control plane of a layer-1 millimeter wave repeater. A base station receives information about a repeater’s second interface via its first interface, determines a configuration, and communicates it back. The repeater uses the received configuration to set up its second interface.
Mr. Whang is an industrial designer at Apple, known for his work on some of Apple’s most iconic products, including the iPhone. He has collaborated closely with the legendary Jony Ive and his team.
Interestingly, outside of Apple, Whang has a vibrant second career as a DJ and music label owner. He goes by the name “Eug” and runs Public Release Recordings, a label known for its underground electronic music. He also organizes popular parties in the Bay Area.
Patent №: D1057709 – Electronic device.
Patent №: D1057682 – Component for a headphone.
Patent №: D1057663 – Connector.
