Patent №: 12081953 (September 3, 2024) – Passive speaker authentication.

Systems and methods for authenticating a passive speaker involve activating its identification circuit. The playback device measures the current to determine impedance modulation. The speaker type is identified based on this modulation. Calibration is then applied to the playback device accordingly.

Carlos Horacio Aldana

Carlos Aldana is a Senior Member of IEEE with over 20 years of experience.

He received his Bachelor of Science from the California Institute of Technology, in 1996, and his Masters and PhD from Stanford University, in 1998 and 2002, respectively.

After his Ph.D., he worked at Solarflare on 10 Gb/s CAT5 cable technology. After Solarflare, he worked at Broadcom Corporation designing WiFi technology along with various chipsets for almost 10 years.

Carlos then worked at Qualcomm on WiFi location technologies where he introduced Fine Timing Measurement to the IEEE 802.11REVmc standard and worked on products that proved the feasibility of the technology.

Dr. Aldana was vice-chair of the IEEE 802.11az group, which evolved the FTM technology. He then worked at Intel Corporation on mmwave technology and 3GPP standards.

He is now with Meta working on wireless technology focusing on AR/VR applications.

Patent №: 12081346 (September 3, 2024) – Contention window size adjustment for retransmission operations. The method involves determining and adjusting the contention window size (CWS) for uplink/downlink communication in NR unlicensed (NR-U) spectrum. Adjustments are based on a reference burst set and code block groups. Retransmissions are scheduled based on the adjusted CWS.

Patent №: 12081281 (September 3, 2024) – Systems and methods for managing energy detection thresholds. The device measures channel energy and compares it to a threshold function to determine if the channel is occupied. The threshold value is a continuous function with constant regions and a sloped region influenced by the device’s maximum transmit power.

The techniques involve: receiving a request to transfer funds between two accounts in multiple instances. Before executing the next instance, the future balance of the first account is predicted. If the predicted balance is below a threshold, the transaction is postponed until the balance exceeds the threshold. Once the balance exceeds the threshold, the transfer is executed automatically.
