Principal Researcher at Ericsson
Ström is a principal researcher at Ericsson Research. He received his Ph.D. from Linköping University, Sweden, in 2002, after having been a visiting Ph.D. student at University of California in San Diego in 1995–1996 and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1998–1999.
At Ericsson, Ström started working in the area of computer graphics and was involved in the standardization of OpenGL ES, a graphics API for embedded systems such as cellular phones. In particular, Ström co-invented Ericsson Texture Compression (ETC1), which was standardized in OpenGL ES.
Patent №: 11924416 (March 5, 2024) – Combined loop filtering for image processing. In an image processing device (encoder or decoder), the number of loop filter stages is reduced by combining bilateral loop filtering with SAO or ALF. This addresses implementation issues with excessive loop filter stages and maintains similar compression efficiency gains as separate stages.
Sr. director of technology at Qualcomm.
Kutz received a B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering in 1992 and an M.S. degree in engineering sciences in 1998 from Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel, where he is currently working toward a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering.
From 1992 to 1998, he was a Communication Engineer in the Israeli Defense Force. Since 1998, he has been with Freescale Semiconductor Israel (formerly Motorola Semiconductors), Herzelia, Israel, where he currently leads a physical layer modem team.
His current research interests include the field of mobile communications, code-division multiple-access (CDMA) communications, equalization, channel coding, and digital signal processing
Patent №: 11924009 (March 5, 2024) – Frequency dependent residual side band correction. A network node transmits a training signal for a UE on multiple sub-carriers via IQ modulators and RF antenna panels, receiving feedback associated with an FDRSB. It applies an FDRSB correction filter to at least one signal for transmission to the UE, based on received feedback.
Patent №: 11923977 (March 5, 2024) – Decoder success predictor signaling for adjusting MIRS scheduling policy. A UE signals decoder success prediction support to a network node, which adjusts transmission parameters and optimizes MIRS schedules accordingly. The UE receives transmissions based on its support for this capability, and the network node’s optimization of MIRS schedules is influenced by the UE’s support.
Founder, CEO & Chief Scientist at Merly; Adjunct Lecturer at Stanford University
Patent №: 11922535 (March 5, 2024) – Compute optimization mechanism for deep neural networks. Embodiments facilitate compute operations for deep neural networks. One example includes a graphics processing unit with multiple multiprocessors, each having a register file to store various operands and processing cores.
Mechanical Engineer, Fellow at LENNOX INDUSTRIES.
Patent №: 11920819 (March 5, 2024) – HVAC system operated with adaptive discharge air temperature setpoint. An HVAC system comprises a blower, variable-speed compressor, indoor air temperature sensor, and controller. The controller stores indoor temperature and discharge air temperature setpoints. When the measured indoor air temperature is outside the threshold range of the setpoint, the controller calculates an adaptive discharge air temperature setpoint.
