Abstract
To reduce viewing angle dependence of γ characteristics in a normally black liquid crystal display. Each pixelhas a first sub-pixela and a second sub-pixelb which can apply mutually different voltages to their respective liquid crystal layers. Relationships ΔV(gk)>0 volts and ΔV(gk)≧ΔV(gk+1) are satisfied at least in a range 0<gk≦n−1 if it is assumed that ΔV=V−Vwhere ΔVis the difference between root-mean-square voltage Vapplied to the liquid crystal layer of the first sub-pixela and root-mean-square voltage Vapplied to the liquid crystal layer of the second sub-pixelb.
