Abstract

A system ( ) for starting an internal combustion engine ( ) of an automotive vehicle ( ) has a controller ( ) coupled to a starter/alternator ( ). The engine ( ) has a crankshaft ( ) and a turbocharger ( ). The controller ( ) initiates the starting of the engine ( ) by rotating the crankshaft ( ). The rotating crankshaft ( ) displaces an amount of air from the cylinders ( ) of the engine ( ) to rotate the rotor shaft of the turbocharger ( ). The turbocharger ( ) thus draws in air, compresses the air and provides the compressed air to the cylinders ( ). When the engine is started the initial power is increased due to the compressed air.
