Abstract

A pyrolysis plantcomprises a grinding pyrolyzer, being a machine or apparatus in which both particle size reduction and pyrolysis occur simultaneously. Plantalso comprises a bin (hopper)for holding wet particulate biomass feedstock. Chuteleads from the binto a biomass dryerwhich reduces moisture content of the feedstock as low as possible, e.g., to below about 10. Dried feedstock is conveyed from dryervia lineto a dried biomass feedstock hopper. Dried feedstock is fed from hopperinto a chutewhich leads to an inlet trunnionof grinding pyrolyzer. A discharge trunnionof grinding pyrolyzerleads to a char holderfor collecting char particles and a condensation trainfor condensing vapor generated by the pyrolysis to produce oil.
