Abstract
A security document () comprises a paper document substrate () and a security element () embedded in said document substrate (). The security element comprises an element substrate () and a material () sensitive to laser light. The method comprises the step of directing laser light () onto the document substrate () so as to alter said material (), so as to provide said security element () with a detectable marking ().
