Abstract
A method that includes obtaining log data of a downhole formation, and characterizing the downhole formation by determining stiffness coefficients including C, C, C, C, C, and C. Cis a function of C, C, C, and at least one of a kerogen volume and a clay volume derived from the log data. In another method or system, Cis derived based at least in part on Ccalculated as C=k[C+2(C−C)]+kor Ccalculated as C=((C−k)/k)−2(C−C), where kand kare predetermined constants. In another method or system, Cis derived in part from at least one of a kerogen volume derived from the log data, a clay volume derived from the log data, Ccalculated as C=k[C+2(C−C)]+k, or Ccalculated as C=((C−k)/k)−2(C−C), where kand kare predetermined constants.
