Abstract

The present invention relates to novel chromone alkaloid of formula 1 isolated from the plant. The compound 5,7-dihydroxy-6-(3-hydroxy-1-methylpiperidin-4-yl)-2-methyl-4H-chromen-4-one, is found to be a potential inhibitor of cell growth and proliferation and also inhibits production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. The formulations of this particular compound can be used for treatment of cancer and inflammation.
