Abstract
An electromagnetic bearing arrangement for a rotating equipment includes an electromagnet; an amplifier arrangement based on IGBT (Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistor) switches; a power supply; a controller; and a position sensor. The controller includes a position control module and a direct force control module, the position sensor is operatively connected to the control module to calculate a force reference (F) based on the measured position of the rotating equipment. The electromagnetic bearing arrangement includes a sensor for measuring at least one parameter (i, i) indicative of a force exerted by the electromagnet to calculate an estimated force (F), to compare the force reference with the estimated force, and to control the amplifier.
