Abstract

Described herein is a process of genetic transformation inbymediated transformation to overexpress squalene synthase gene (WsSQS) encoding WsSQS enzyme that catalyzes the synthesis of squalene from farnesyl pyrophosphate. Increased withanolide level including withaferin-A, withanolide A and B and withanone is attained in transformed plant tissues.
