Abstract
Disclosed are: a fuel cell which is provided with a membrane electrode assembly (), an anode-side gas diffusion layer () and a cathode-side gas diffusion layer (); and a method for manufacturing the cell. The degree of processing for suppressing protrusion of carbon fibers in the anode-side gas diffusion layer () and the degree of processing for suppressing protrusion of carbon fibers in the cathode-side gas diffusion layer () are set to be different from each other. Specifically, protrusion from the anode-side gas diffusion layer () is sufficiently suppressed, thereby being prevented from damaging the membrane electrode assembly (). Meanwhile, the degree of suppression processing of the cathode-side gas diffusion layer () is set low, thereby securing drainage of generated water.
