Abstract
Recombinant bacterial strains comprising heterologous nif genes in its genome, and capable of fixing nitrogen. The strain may be, for example, a recombinantstrain comprising heterologous nif genes in its genome. An inoculum and a method for increasing plant productivity are further described.
