Abstract
A muffler () for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine has a housing () with an expansion chamber (). An inlet pipe () extends into the housing () and has an end section () with an outlet opening () to the expansion chamber (). A main outlet pipe () has an initial section () protruding into the end section () of the inlet pipe (). A secondary outlet pipe () has an inlet opening () in the expansion chamber (). A gap () in an overlapping area () between the end section () and the initial section () forms a bypass in the end section () of the inlet pipe (), which bypasses the initial section () of the main outlet pipe (). Through the bypass gap (), exhaust gas flows from the inlet pipe () into the expansion chamber () and out the secondary outlet pipe ().
