An approach is provided for determining a first location-based record associated with at least one device (). Next, the point of interest platform causes, at least in part, a specification of a second location-based record relative to the first location-based record (). Subsequently, the point of interest platform causes, at least in part, a transmission of the second location-based record to the at least one device (), wherein transmission of the second location-based record to the at least one device is based, at least in part, on the one or more codes.
