Cyclic carbonate azide having a structure according to the following formula (A) wherein R-Rare independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, Caryl, Caralkyl, and Calkyl groups; said aryl, aralkyl, and alkyl groups my optionally be substituted with heteroatoms, X is a hydrocarbon moiety having at least one carbon atom, T has the structure —N(R)— or —O—, Ris selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and Calkyl groups, optionally substituted with heteroatoms, k is 0, 1, or 2, m is 0 or 1, n is 0 or 1, p is 1 or 2, Z is an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon moiety having at least one carbon atom, optionally substituted with heteroatoms, and Y is either (B) or C) or (D).
