The present invention relates to a spinach plant () which may comprise a genetic determinant that leads to the plant having a red coloration of the leaves, which genetic determinant may be obtainable from a spinach plant comprising said genetic determinant, representative seed of which was deposited with the NCIMB under accession numbers NCIMB 41954, NCIMB 41955 and NCIMB 41956.
