Abstract
A multicore fiberincludes a plurality of coresdisposed at predetermined intervals and surrounded by a cladding. The multicore fiberalso includes a markerformed apart from the cores. The refractive index of the markeris different from those of the coresand the cladding. For example, the markermay be made of a material having lower refractive index than that of the cladding. In this case, for example, the coresmay be made of germanium-doped quartz. The claddingmay be made of pure quartz. The markermay be made of fluorine-doped quartz. Further, the markermay be an empty hole.
