Abstract

A control system is for a vehicle. The control system includes an electronic control unit configured to perform a coast downshift, and execute blipping control during performance of the coast downshift. The electronic control unit is configured to determine whether blipping abnormality occurs. The electronic control unit is configured to disengage an engagement element on an engagement side when the blipping abnormality occurs during the performance of the coast downshift. The electronic control unit is configured to increase a speed of the engine in the blipping control. The blipping abnormality is a state that the blipping control is not executed normally during the performance of the coast downshift. The engagement element on the engagement side is an engagement element that is changed from a disengaged state to an engaged state in the coast downshift.
