Abstract
A box protectorfor protecting the inner surface of a boxof a threaded joint for pipes having a female threaded portion and a shoulder surfacewith the shoulder surface being sloped by an angle θ with respect to the direction perpendicular to the pipe axis has a male threaded portionwhich threadingly engages with at least a portion of the complete threads of the female threaded portion of the box and a shoulder surfacewhich sealingly contacts the shoulder surfaceof the box to form a first seal portion, and the shoulder surfaceis sloped by an angle θP (θP>θ) with respect to the direction perpendicular to the pipe axis. The protector has a circumferential groovein its outer peripheral surface in the vicinity of the shoulder surfaceand an elastic seal ringwhich contacts the shoulder surfaceof the boxand forms a second seal portion.
