Abstract
To provide a liquid crystal compound having a large negative value of dielectric anisotropy (Δ∈). A compound is represented by formula (1): wherein, in formula (1), Rand Rare hydrogen, halogen or alkyl having 1 to 10 carbons, and in the alkyl, at least one of —CH— may be replaced by —O—, at least one of —(CH)— may be replaced by —CH═CH—, and at least one of hydrogen may be replaced by halogen; ring Aand ring Aare 1,4-cyclohexylene or 1,4-phenylene; Zis a single bond, —(CH)—, —CHO—, —OCH—, —CFO—, —OCF—, —COO—, or —OCO—; Y is halogen, —CF, —CFH or —CHF; and m, n and p are 0, 1 or 2, and a sum (m+n) of m and n is 0, 1 or 2.
