Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention relate generally to new forage crops and methods of creating new forage crops. For example, chemical mutagenesis is used to create mutant crops having desirable forage characteristics. In some embodiments, a mutantplant is produced by inducing mutagenesis; producing a population of mutantplants using the treated reproductive portion; assaying the population of mutantfor a C493Y mutation in CYP79A1; and growing the mutantplant, wherein the mutantplant exhibits altered dhurrin content or catabolism as compared to a controlplant.
