Abstract

A silicon compound that contains a radical-polymerizable group. The silicone compound is liquid at room temperature and has good handling properties, has excellent reactivity, and provides a cured product having excellent oxygen permeability. The silicone compound is represented by formula (1): wherein each A is, independently, a divalent hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, each B is, independently, a monovalent organosilicone residue having 2 to 20 silicon atoms, and X is a specified type of moiety comprising a monovalent radical-polymerizable group. A method for preparing the silicone compound. The silicone compound is useful for ophthalmic device compositions, coatings, and cosmetic compositions such as skin care cosmetics, hair care cosmetics, antiperspirants, deodorants, makeup cosmetics, and ultraviolet protection cosmetics.
